Objectives - By the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:
1. Identify and name four emotions. 2. Express their emotion, e.g., I am sad.
3. Respond to closed questions with a one-word answer.
Role call & Rules
4. Act out the correct facial expressionsfor the four emotions.
5. Respond to the “Show me happy.” command.

1. Do the roll call. 2. Review the rules.
3. Collect the homework from last time. Quickly check it and give rewards.
Warm up - Review
10 minutes
1. Review the vocabulary with flashcards: book, pencil, and the textbook names (ABC starter, Get Ready, Phonics).
2. Review all of the classroom commands taught so far (stand up, sit down, come here, go back, walk carefully, speak softly, line up). Do the actions and say the classroom commands.
3. Review the hello song and the movement song. 4. Review the introductions (Hello, I’m name). 5. Give rewards.
Presentation: Vocabulary
5 minutes
1. Show the flashcard of “happy”, make a big smile and say, “happy.” The students repeat. Follow the same procedure for the other emotions.

Activity: Show me the emotions (Act it out!) 5 minutes
1. Say one of the emotions. The students act it out.
2. After the students practice several times, the teacher stops saying the emotions.
Instead, the teacher acts out the emotions, and the students say the emotions.
3. Practice several times, and then invite one student to come to the front.
4. The student in the front has to act out the emotions, and the rest students guess
which emotion the student is acting.
5. Try to give every student a chance to act out the emotions.
Activity: Draw your feelings. 10 minutes
1. Draw a blank face on the whiteboard.
2. Invite one student to come to the front. The student draws one emotion on the face.
3. The class looks at the face and says the emotion.
4. Repeat steps 1-3 until every student has had at least two turns.
Presentation: I am _______. Are you ______? Yes/no 10 minutes
1. Point at yourself and say, “I.” The students do the same.
2. Put your hand on your chest and say, “am.” The students do the same.
3. Do the action of “sad” and say, “Sad.” The students do the same.
4. Do the three actions together, and say, “I am sad.” The students do the same.
5. Repeat steps 1-4 for the other three emotions.
6. Teach the sentence pattern with the following actions/expressions (make sure the
students repeat):
are: put your arms by your sides, with your palms up you: point at the students sad: make a sad expression
7. Do the three actions together, and say, “Are you sad?” The students repeat.
8. Repeat steps 7-8 for the other three emotions.

Prompt the student to nod his/her head, and say “yes,” or shake his/her head, and say “no.”
10. Prompt the student to ask the next student, and so on, until every student has had a
turn.
Activity: Are you _______? 5 minutes
1. Draw a big blank face on the whiteboard.
2. Invite one student to come to the front, and face the students.
3. Draw a happy, sad, tired, or angry expression in the blank face. All the students
can see the face, except the student at the front.
4. The student at the front asks, “Are you ______?” The rest of the students have to
answer yes or no according to the face.
5. If the student at the front guesses the correct answer, then he/she can pick the next
student to come to the front and play.
Wrap-up 10 minutes
1. Hold up the Homework sheet, and show what today’s homework will be.
2. Demonstrate how to finish the homework (draw the four emotions). Tell the
students to finish at home.
3. Hand out the homework sheet, ask the students to put away their homework.
4. Tell the students to take out their communication sheets.
5. Write down today’s contents on the whiteboard. The students fill in their own
communication sheets.
6. Check every student’s communication sheet. Give rewards.
7. Before the students leave, stand by the door, and ask the students to line up with all
of their belongings.
8. Ask each student something taught from today’s lesson.
9. If the student answers correctly, do “give me five,” and say goodbye.
10. If the students have problems answering, help the students to practice saying the
correct answer. Prompt the student without pressuring him/her.
