阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项。
A
I was waiting in line to register a letter in the post office at Thirty-third Street and Eighth Avenue in New York. I noticed that the clerk appeared to be bored with the job—weighing envelopes, handing out stamps, and issuing receipts—the same dull work year after year.
So I said to myself, ―I am going to try to make that clerk like me. Obviously, to make him like me, I must say something nice, not about myself, but about him.‖
So I asked myself, ―What is there about him that I can honestly admire?‖ That is sometimes a hard question to answer, especially with strangers. However, in this case, it happened to be easy. I instantly saw something I admired very much.
So while he was weighing my envelope, I remarked with enthusiasm, ―I certainly wish I had your hair.‖ He looked up and his face was full of smiles. ―Well, it isn’t as good as it used to be,‖ he said modestly.
We carried on a pleasant conversation and the last thing he said to me was, ―Many people have admired my hair.‖ I’ll bet that person went out to lunch that day walking on air. I’ll bet he went home that night and told his wife about it. I’ll bet he looked in the mirror and said, ―It is a beautiful head of hair.‖
There is one all—important law of human conduct. If we obey that law, we shall almost never get into trouble. In fact, that law, if obeyed, will bring us countless friends and lasting
happiness. But the very instant we break the law, we shall get into endless trouble. The law is this: Always make the other person feel important. A. the clerk was tired of his job

2. The author commented on the clerk’s hair toA. win his kindness

Put your car keys away and forget about your travel pass --- it's time to do a bit of walking. National Walking Month is organized every May by Living Streets, an organization that campaigns for the rights and the needs of pedestrians --- indeed, the organization was previously known as the Pedestrians' Association. The association's aim is to make streets safe, attractive and enjoyable spaces for people to live, work, shop and play. By putting people (rather than vehicles) first, Living Streets wants to create streets and spaces where people feel happier, healthier and more sociable.
The annual campaign gives participants a great opportunity to experience many virtues(优点)of walking. These include the physical health benefits of becoming fitter; the environmental advantages of not using vehicles; the joy of local discoveries seeing more of your local area on
foot; the enjoyment of walking with other people, whether family, friends or work colleagues and finally the stress relief that comes from walking---walking can clear your head.
Walk to School Week, 19 to 24 May, is part of the month's activities and its aim is to encourage parents to send children to school on foot, rather than take them in the car or let them use public transport. The movement was started in 1995 with only five participating schools and now two decades later, more than one million children take part.
Similarly, there is Walk to Work Week, 12 to 16 May, where grown-ups are encouraged to walk. In the morning, getting off the bus a stop early or parking a few streets away is a good way to add more steps to the daily total. And during the working day, rather than having lunch at the desks or in the canteen, take a walk and get some fresh air. Walk home with your workmates and chat away about everything under the sun but work!

8. What's the text mainly about?

Tickets change from $15 to $123 depending on the number of visitors and the season. Prescott Park Arts Festival

From self-driving cars to carebots (care+robots) for elderly people, rapid development in technology has long represented a possible threat to many jobs normally performed by people. But experts now believe that almost 50 percent of occupations existing today will be completely unnecessary by 2025 as artificial intelligence continues to change businesses.
―The next fifteen years will see a revolution in how we work, and a revolution will necessarily take place in how we plan and think about workplaces,‖ said Peter Andrew, Director of Workplace Strategy for CBRE Asia Pacific. A growing number of jobs in the future will require creative intelligence, social skills and the ability to use artificial intelligence.
The report is based on interviews with 200 experts, business leaders and young people from Asia Pacific, Europe and North America. It shows that in the US technology already destroys more jobs than it creates. But the report states: ―Losing occupations does not necessarily mean losing jobs — just changing what people do.‖ Growth in new jobs could occur as much, according to the research. ―The growth of 20 to 40 person companies that have the speed and technological know-how will directly challenge big companies,‖ it states.
A 2014 report by Pew Research found 52 percent of experts in artificial intelligence and robotics were optimistic about the future and believed there would still be enough jobs in the next few years. The optimists pictured ―a future in which robots do not take the place of more jobs than they create,‖ according to Aaron Smith, the report's co-author. ―Technology will continue to affect jobs, but more jobs seem likely to be created. Although there have always been unemployed people, when we reached a few billion people there were billions of jobs. There is no shortage of things that need to be done and that will not change,‖ Microsoft's Jonathan Grudin told researchers.
12. According to the report, _____.
A. people won't necessarily lose jobs
B. big companies will face fewer challenges
C. small companies will win against big companies
D. most people will become interested in technology
13. We can infer from the text that in the future _____.
A. people will face many difficulties
B. people will take up more creative jobs
C. artificial intelligence will threaten people's lives
D. most jobs will be done in traditional workplaces
14. What is the attitude of most experts in artificial intelligence and robotics to the future?
A. Mixed. B. Worried. C. Hopeful. D. Doubtful.
15. Jonathan Grudin's words in the last paragraph suggest that _____.
A. there will be enough jobs for people
B. things will change a lot in a few years
C. many people will become unemployed
D. technology will totally change future jobs
