5 minutes
1. Say hello to the students. Encourage them to say hello back to you.
2. Do the roll call. Check that each student raises his/her hand and says “here.” 3. Collect the homework from the last class and check it quickly.
4. Give rewards for the students’ homework; give extra rewards for excellent homework.
Review the Previous Lesson
1. Review the sentence pattern, “Hello, I am (name).”
2. Do individual practice; let each student practice saying the sentence with his/her name.
3. Sing the “Hello song” twice.

5. Show the flashcards of classroom English from the last class: stand up, sit down,
come here, and go back. Review with actions.
6. Do the activity “Teacher Says” to review the classroom English.

Presentation: Making Requests with Classroom Objects 5 minutes
1. Show the flashcard: “book,” and say, “book.” Encourage the students to repeat
“book.” Do this several times, and then do the same for “pencil.”
2. Hold up the “book” flashcard in one hand and the “pencil” flashcard in the other
hand. When you raise one flashcard, the students say the word. Repeat several times. Move faster to make it more challenging.
3. Repeat the procedure with a real book and pencil.
4. Give each student a pencil and a book (any book).
5. Go to a student, and pretend to borrow a book from him/her. Say “May I borrow a
book?” slowly and clearly, using a gesture to suggest “borrowing.” If the student is unsure, demonstrate to him/her how to give you a book.
6. Return the book to the student and say, “Thank you.” Repeat the procedure
several times for “book” and “pencil.”
7. 8. Demonstrate “Put away your book.” The students repeat and follow the instruction.
Do the same for “Take out your book,” “Put away your pencil,” and “Take out your pencil.”
9. Combine the new instructions with previous instructions, e.g., stand up, come here,
etc.
Activity: Sentence Relay 5 minutes
1. Review “May I borrow your book?” “Take out your book” and “Put away your
book.”
2. Point to yourself and say “May.” Then point to another student, that student says,
“I.”

“Borrow.”
4. Go on until the first sentence is finished.
5. Reward the students.
6. Do the activity with the other two sentences. Play several times.
Presentation: Textbook Names 5 minutes
1. Review the name of the “communication book” (taught in the previous lesson).
2. Show the textbook flashcards individually, and say the names of the books (ABC
Starter, Get Ready, and Phonics), have the students repeat several times.
Activity: Touch the Flashcard 5 minutes
1. Put the flashcards on the board. Ask two students to come to the front. Say a
textbook name, for example “ABC Starter.” The students race to touch the correct flashcard (you may prefer to play this game with hammers).
2. Reward the students, and ask the next two students to come and try.
Presentation: Instructions with Textbook Names 5 minutes
1. Take the flashcards down from the board and put them on the desk.
2. Demonstrate to the students how to follow the instructions “Take out your Get
Ready/ ABC Starter/Phonics book,” and “Put away your Get Ready/ABC
3. Make sure the students repeat the sentences each time.
Activity: Mini Flashcards 5 minutes
1. Hand out the mini flashcards (ABC starter, Get Ready, Phonics, and
Communication Book). Make sure every student has a set.
2. Have the students turn the mini flashcards upside-down and mix them up.
3. Call out the following instructions “Take out your Get Ready/ABC Starter/Phonics
book/Communication book,” and have the students respond using the mini
flashcards.
4. Play again, this time, have the class say, “Take out your __,” and complete the
instruction by saying a textbook name, for example “...Get Ready book.”

2. Organize the students into 2 lines (if there are fewer than 5 students, just have one
line).
3. Whisper something into a student’s ear, e.g., “Take out your pencil.” The student
whispers into his/her neighbor’s ear, and the message is whispered down the line.
4. The last student in the line must respond to the whispered message, by going to
the table, and selecting the correct object/flashcard.
5. Play several times.
Wrap-up 10 minutes
1. Put the enlarged copy of the homework sheet on the board. Demonstrate how to
finish the homework (find the things needed for English class and circle them).
2. Hand out the homework sheet.
3. Tell the students to take out their communication sheets.
4. Write down today’s contents on the whiteboard. Put the enlarged copy of the
communication sheet on the board. Show the students how to fill in the sheet.
5. If the students are too young to fill in the communication sheet, prepare some
typed paper with today’s contents on, and paste the paper onto the students’
communication sheets.
6. Check the students’ communication sheets. Give rewards.
