Wang Ling, a middle school girl, felt angry with her parents after getting a boy's phone call. “A classmate called me to discuss homework. We talked just a few minutes before my parents got mad,” said the girl. “They asked whether I liked the boy. I said I didn't, they wouldn't believe me.”

Wang's trouble is not strange at all because puppy love (早恋) becomes a big headache for parents and schools. They worry that puppy love will be bad for not to allow any talk or any physical contact (身体接触) one boy and one girl alone.

Many students say they understand parents and teachers are so nervous about puppy love. But some think they are going too far. “We have our own thoughts and we know what to with it,” said Wang Ling.

Another girl, Jiang Ting, liked making friends with boys. “Boys and girls can learn from each other,” she said. “My mother asks me to study hard. However, she stops me from making friends with boys.” Once Jiang told her mother she might fall in love with a boy. Her mother let Jiang make own decision. Soon Jiang found that she didn't like him any more because the boy was not as as what she had thought before. And she did worse and worse in her subjects because she spent much on it. At last she understood the worry from schools and most parents about puppy love.

五、阅读理解

A

Hi Hongbo,

I’m so glad to read about the changes taking place in your city. It’s really good news that you can travel by subway in Xi'an, though there's only one line there. Here in London we have twelve lines. By the way, we don't use the word “subway” here. It's American English. We call it “the Underground,” instead. The London Underground is very famous. It's famous for several reasons. First of all, part of the underground railway today is the oldest in the world, which opened in 1863. Secondly, the London Underground is also the first line to have electric trains, in 1890. Thirdly but not the last, the London Underground is the second largest metro system in the world, after the Shanghai Metro. There are 270 stations in the Underground and it has 402 kilometres of tracks(轨道). What's more, the city of London itself helps make the transportation system famous! I've got a few photos to help you build a clear picture of the Underground in my city. They are together with this mail.

In your email, you also said workers were building more lines. I’m sure your city is developing fast. Maybe you can send me a few photos of your city today. I really want to see the changes taking place there. I'm happy for you to live there in an ancient city with such a new look!

So much for now. I'll write soon again. Best wishes!

“Thirty years ago,” he answered. “I came here for a week, do you remember? And I was right thirty then.” He added, “You've changed very little.” But it wasn't true. Pat looked like an old lady.

The next morning Roy walked through the small town alone. The place looked very different. There were lots of traffic signs beside the roads. Having a husband means an extra seven hours of housework each week for women, according to a new study. For men, getting married saves an hour of housework a week. “It's a 式),” said lead researcher Frank Stafford at University of Michigan's Institute for Social Research. “Men usually work more outside the home, while women do more of the housework.”

He points out that there are differences among families. But in general, marriage means more housework for women and less for men. “And the situation gets worse for women when they have children,” Stafford said.

Overall, times are changing in the American home. In 1976, women busied themselves with 26 weekly hours of sweeping-and-dusting work, compared with 17 hours in 2005. Men are doing more housework, more than doubling their housework hours from six in 1976 to 13 in 2005.

Single(单身) women in their 20s and 30s did the least housework, about 12 weekly hours, while married women in their 60s and 70s did the most---about 21 hours a week.

Men showed a different pattern, with older men picking up the broom more often than younger men. Single men worked the hardest around the house, more than that of all other age groups of married men. Having children increases housework even further. With more than three children, for example, wives do more of the extra work, clocking about 28 hours a week compared with husbands'10 hours.

42. According to the “well-known pattern” in Paragraph 1, a married man
