I suggest that we should also start an optional course named British and American literature.
The course should mainly focus on traditional and contemporary British and American literature. The teacher may recommend a few famous books written by well-known writers from English-speaking countries. After reading them, students will be encouraged to share views on them and discuss some of the plots. They may also recommend books they like. Emphasis should be put on the main idea of the book rather than vocabulary or grammar.
The reason why I suggest starting the course is that the present teaching of English has paid too much attention to examinations.
