Translation: Story on Making a Windmill (Anonymous)

Three hundred years ago there was a brilliant scientist in England by the name of Newton.
He was born in a farming family.
When he was studying in elementary school, he particularly liked to make handicrafts.
He always saved the pocket money that his grandmother gave him to buy saw, ax, and chisel.
All day long he was busy making handicrafts and his academic results were mediocre.

One day when Newton was coming home from school he saw a flour-grinding windmill was being installed beside the village.
He stopped to watch carefully and almost forgot to go home.
From that day onward he ran over to watch for a while every day after school.
After the windmill was installed, Newton assisted grandmother to carry a bag of wheat on his back to be ground into flour.
He saw the windmill drive the grindstone and white flour came out scattering all over.
Newton said: “Grandma, I want to make one too when I go home.”

Every day after school when Newton entered the house, he got busy hammering away noisily.
After a few days, a small windmill was actually made.
At the waft of a hand-fan, the windmill turned squeakily.
Grandmother said: “Could your windmill grind flour?”
Newton said innocently: “Yes it can.”
Grandmother smiled.

On the following day, Newton brought his small windmill to school and put it on a desk.
His classmates crowded around to look.
Newton proudly turned the windmill.
Everybody commended him for a job well done.
At that time, Carter in the same class said loudly: “Newton, why would a windmill turn?
Can you explain the principle?”
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“What principle?” Newton never thought he needed to know principle to make handicraft.
Carter saw Newton was stumped and he said with a smile: “You can’t explain the principle.
What’s the big deal just making it?
That’s a joke!”
The other classmates broke out in laughter as well.
Someone pushed the little windmill. It fell to the ground and shattered into pieces. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Newton’s face was red from embarrassment.
He picked up the broken windmill.
Even though he felt terrible, he did not shed a drop of tear.
From then on, Newton was determined to study hard and ask why in coming across anything.
Gradually he had fostered the habit to scrutinize diligently on everything he did.
