Cheating in College 分析大学作弊现象

At the beginning of campus life, we see many students constantly inquiring about things of paramount importance in college. Grades and certificates, it seems, are the most important for most, regardless of the means by which they attain those. When it comes to cheating in examinations, every student holds their own opinions respectively. For me, I say we should focus more on the value we shaped and the experience we acquired during our struggle to learn rather than the result itself.

First things first, cheating as the most quickly responded way to improve our grades, it is very likely to be addictive. Having tasted the easy way, few of us would choose to try the hard way of working hard to get a higher score afterwards. Not to mention they can hardly learn any knowledge this way, they are likely to shape a misdirected value that there might always be a shortcut to success. As the time went by, they get used to using unscrupulous means to get things done, and thus result in problems like bribery, plagiary and so on.

What’s more, cheating behavior spreads like cancer. Once one student succeeds by means of cheating, other students would see that their efforts haven’t been rewarded because the examination has been rigged. As a consequence, more students would step on the wrong path. So if cheating is not prevented at the preliminary stage, it will subvert the whole justice system in no time.

According to a survey, about 75 percent of college students admit to cheating, suggesting that probably even more than three quarters of the grades have lost their fidelity. In all the public finger-pointing about cheating, surprisingly it still pervades in colleges and social activities. There are mainly two reasons. The importance we put upon grades cuts so cleanly through the people and it touches just about everyone. With higher grades, we can win other people’s respect and find a better job. And people’s neglect of cheating behavior only makes the situation worse. Most people get away from punishment for cheating easily because the supervision is not strong enough.

There’s no such thing as a free lunch. To reduce cheating behavior in college, we have to bear in mind that there will always be a consequence to cheating in the first place. Besides, we should stop putting so much emphasis on grades which does not speaks for students’ true ability, and strengthening the supervision and increasing punishment comes as last.
