LCAandAHPareusedtocomparethepotentialenvironmentalimpactsoflandfillandincinerationwithpowergeneration.Itisshownthatmorenega2tiveenvironmentalconsequenceswouldberesultedfromthelandfillthanfromtheincinerationwithpow2ergenerationifthecompensatoryphaseforpowergenerationweretakenintoaccountinthelandfillsys2tem.Otherwise,theformerwouldbemuchbetterthanthelatterintermsofenvironmentalconsidera2tions.Thefunctionalunitrequiresthesimilarfunc2tionsforcomparisonoftwodifferenttechnologiesforMSWtreatment/disposalinthewholelifecycle.Therefore,thecompensatoryconsiderationofpowergenerationinlandfillsystemgivesagoodbasisforboundarydefinitioninLCAandisofsignificancetootherrelevantstudies.Asforthepollutanttreat2ment,itdoesnotchangetheaforementionedconclu2sion,butalterstheenvironmentalconsequencestocertaindegreeparticularlyfortheincinerationpro2
